Every two years the council meets at an international congress and during a general meeting elects an Executive that includes a President, a Secretary-Treasurer, the President-Elect, the Immediate Past-President, two Members at Large and an Editor.
- President: Leda Mugayar + View Biography

Leda was born in Brazil and was in private practice in paediatric dentistry and special care patients from 1980-2003 in Sao Paulo –She has her specialy in Pediatric Dentistry from Showa University Japan , Masters in Preventive Dentistry from University of California at San Francisco - UCSF & Paulista University - Sao Paulo – Brazil. She also has her specialty in Radiology and Oral Diagnosis as well as Special Care Dentistry,. Dr Mugayar was an associate Professor in Faculty of Dentistry - Sao Paulo- Brazil ( 1981 to 2003). She currently is Head of Special Care Unit - Westmead Centre for Oral Health – Sydney Australia. She has numerous books and articles published in the area of special needs.
Leda Mugayar graduated in Dentistry from the University of Campinas, Brazil in 1980 and afterwards undertook three different specialisation courses - Paediatric Dentistry, Radiology and Oral Diagnosis, and Special Care in Dentistry (which is a recognised specialty in Brazil).
Since her graduation from university she has been working with Special Care patients, and Special Care in Dentistry is her main area of expertise together with Paediatric Dentistry.
In 2000 she published a textbook - "Special Care Patients - Manual of Oral Health ", a multidisciplinary approach to the practice of Special Care in Dentistry. It was the first book published in Latin America in the area of Special Needs Dentistry and has been largely referred amongst many Latin American countries.
She has also contributed, as an author, to a number of Chapters on Special Care Dentistry in various textbooks – medical, psychological and dental areas.
Furthermore, there are a number of publications in International Journals and Scientific magazines relating to her academic and teaching activities commencing in 1981.
Prof Mugayar has been active in national and international Associations in Special Care in Dentistry and has made an enormous contribution to the process of having Special Care recognised as a specialty in Brazil in the year 2000.
In Australia she has established, and coordinates, the first Clinical Doctorate Program in Special Needs at the University of Sydney.
Currently she is President of the IADH - International Association of Dentistry for Disability and Oral Health - and also President of the Australian Society for Special Care Dentistry.
For the last 10 years she has been involved with the Special Olympics Program and is a former President of Special Olympics Brazil after implementing the Special Smiles programs in her home Country.
Nowadays she is the National co-ordinator of the Special Smiles for Special Olympics Australia - - and as such has implemented the first program in Australia.
Finally, another area of major interest is Autism Spectrum Disorder focusing on patient’s behavioural management.
- President Elect: Gabriela Scagnet + View Biography

Gabriela is a Graduate of the National University of Buenos Aires - Argentina – She has her specialty in both pediatric dentistry as well as Orthodontics. She is currently the Head of Special Patients Department of the "Quinquela Martin Hospital of Paediatric Dentistry" - Government of Buenos Aires City – , and Professor of the National University of Buenos Aires , at the CLAPAR 2-Pathology and Clinical of Oral Health – Disability and Medical Compromised Patient´s Area. She is a Founding member and President of the AAODI - Argentinian Association of Dentistry for people with Disability. In 2000 she was a co-author of a book "Odontopediatría y Discapacidad” for the practice of Special Care in Dentistry. She is a Fellow of the Intenational College of Dentists , South American Section since 2006.

Roland was born in The Netherlands but graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg in 1969 and moved to the UK in 1970 where he has lived ever since. He obtained his M.Sc. in Paediatric Dentistry from the Eastman Dental Institute of the University of London in 1976. He was a founding member of the British Society for Disability and Oral Health in 1975 and was on the Executive Committee for 10 years, and President in 1997. He was International Representative to the IADH from 1998-2004. He retired from clinical work in July 2004.

Jun-ichi graduated from the Keio University (Faculty of Economics) in 1976 and the Nihon University School of Dentistry at Matsudo in 1982. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in Dentistry from the Graduate School of the Nihon University in 1986.He is a professor of Special Needs Dentistry of Nihon University School of Dentistry at Matsudo and a vice-president of the Japanese Society for Disability and Oral Health.

- Member at Large: Timucin Ari + View Biography

Dr. Timucin ARI graduated from Marmara University Dental School, 1996. He completed his PhD in the Pediatric Dentistry Department of Marmara University in 2002. Dr. Ari is one of the founders of Turkish Association for Disability and Oral Health and is currently working in private practice in Istanbul, focusing particularly on the dental treatment of special needs children.
