Presidents Letter

  • January 12 , 2007: Luc Martens, President IADH
At this time, at the beginning of the very New Year, I think everybody is back from their holidays. So, the risk of receiving messages such as ‘out of office until…’ is minimal! I would like to give you my personal seasonal greetings for a healthy and prosperous 2007,
with much friendship and love within your families and much success in your professional lives.

This is my first presidential letter since the Goteborg Congress. This, the 18th Congress of iADH, was very successful and again the organisers are to be congratulated!

After Clive Friedman and Jan Anderson-Norrinder, it was, and still is, a challenge to take over as President. Although iADH has become a very large group of very interested and dedicated people, it is not easy to meet often or to communicate with one another. On the other hand, the future of iADH will be COMMUNICATION…..via the website, through the iADH magazine, via international contacts, via e-learning. A new textbook and/or journal would be great !

Since August 2006 the Executive Board has communicated only by email. Some items from our Executive Board and Council meetings from Goteborg were further explored.

    - An iADH delegation for the forthcoming FDI meeting in Dubai was decided upon and will comprise Luc Martens, Timucin Ari and Imke Kaschke. - US$ 7500 has been allocated for the further development of the DINOH project initiated by Gustavo Molino. - US$ 2000 will be allocated for the working group on developing countries.

One of the most important realisations at the moment is the first issue of the iADH magazine edited by Timucin Ari and Leda Mugayar. I am extremely happy about this and I hope this superb first issue will be on the Net in the very near future and become the platform for information exchange between all of us! The contributions of Council members are very important for its success. The secretary, Roland Blankenstein is keeping an eye on all correspondence and is preparing the next Executive Board meeting which will take place on June 12th in Hong Kong just before the IAPD meeting.

Dear colleagues and friends from all over the world, let’s start a great new year. I know that I will probably only meet most of you in Santos Brazil 2008, but if we can’t meet, hear or smell each other, we can read each other !

    Kindest regards

    Luc Martens

Dear All, I am happy that we are now printing the Second Announcement for the IADH-Congress in Göteborg 23-26 Aug 2006. We have had excellent cooperation between the Nordic organisations and I am very satisfied with the scientific program. If you want us to send
the printed second announcement please mail to Lena.M.Gustafsson@vgregion.se, and let her know how many copies you want. It is also possible to find the second announcement on the website www.iadh2006.com.
Important dates for the Congress are:

    1 December 2005 - Abstract submission starts
    1 April 2006 – Abstract submission deadline
17 May 2006 – Early bird registration deadline

As I told you earlier we have been successful in funding scholarships for dental personnel to participate in the IADH Congress 2006. The scholarships are intended for dental personnel who will not find funding for participation. The scholarship includes congress fee, budget accommodation, and transportation in economy class. To be eligible for this scholarship these persons are expected to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation about the situation in their country concerning medically compromised patients or patients with disabilities. If they want to apply, they must download the form from www.iadh2006.com., complete and send the application form to:

    IADH 2006, c/o Inspiro, Kastellgatan1, SE-413 07 Göteborg, Sweden.

A few weeks ago I had the privilege to participate in the World Celebration - 40 years of Osseointegration in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I got the chance to meet colleagues from our organisations in Brazil and Argentina to discuss the IADH Congress 2008.
I also visited Dr. Rodolfo Castillo Morales in Cordoba, Argentina and he has accepted to give an Honorary Lecture at our Closing Ceremony at our IADH Congress 2006. Thanks to Gabriela Scagnet and Gustavo Molina who helped me to arrange everything in Argentina.

The Executive Board of IADH will have it´s next meeting at the IAPD Congress in Sydney, Australia in the beginning of November. After that meeting I hope that our new website will be published as soon as possible: www.iadh.org

    Best wishes
    Jan
